De La Espriella denounces corruption at SENA in Córdoba

--- The context --- SENA in the department of Córdoba came under review after a verification visit ordered by the Government, focused on how public resources meant for training are contracted and spent. --- The facts --- The preliminary report found bidding terms steered to favor the same contractors for years, an absence of market studies, payments for services never rendered, contracts split to evade controls and supervisors who authorized disbursements without verifying compliance. A welfare contract worth $933 million delivered spoiled snacks, even to children, and paid for events at 100 % even though dozens did not attend. Another worth $765 million recorded late and partial deliveries of medicines close to expiring, with full invoices paid. --- The positions --- President Abelardo De La Espriella denounced the findings as a shameful web of corruption, administrative neglect and waste, according to the complaint itself, and warned that what is known would be only the beginning. He said he would not tolerate it and assured there would be no untouchables. --- What remains unknown --- Irregularities also appeared in air tickets, food, medical services and activities for apprentices, while the purchase of computers and essential equipment remains stalled. The final report will arrive this week. --- Unanswered questions --- Who approved the bidding terms that favored the same contractors for years? What responsibility will fall on supervisors who paid without verifying? Will training recover the resources that should have reached its programs? --- EPM analysis --- The pattern hits apprentices first, who receive spoiled snacks and medicines close to expiring while public money disperses without effective control or clear accountability. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, what was denounced at SENA in Córdoba matters because every diverted peso is a class not taught, a piece of equipment that never arrives on time and an apprentice who loses real opportunities for training and for a future in his own department. The presidential complaint opens the door to correction, but true change will be measured in complete investigations, clearly identified responsibilities and public contracting that finally puts the training of young people above any contracted favor.
