Operation Loaded Dice: 144 arrested and 290 firearms seized in Las Vegas

--- The context --- The greater Las Vegas metropolitan area was the setting for a strategic investigative initiative launched in July 2026 by Core 8 of the Homeland Security Task Force, known as the HSTF. The operation, named Loaded Dice, was designed to disrupt and dismantle transnational criminal organizations, gangs and other criminal networks involved in illicit firearms and narcotics trafficking, bulk cash smuggling and associated violent crime across the metropolitan area, where no single agency acting alone could cover every jurisdiction those networks cross. --- The facts --- Over the course of the approximately three-month initiative, HSTF law enforcement authorities arrested 144 suspects, seized 290 firearms, including machine guns, and seized 1,124 kilograms of narcotics and more than $1 million in cash and other assets. Those enforcement actions also led to the initiation of 13 new HSTF investigations in coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada, the office that coordinates the federal prosecutions arising from this work in that district. The effort relied on intelligence-driven investigations, coordinated enforcement actions, surveillance, controlled purchases and sustained investigative partnerships. Through those tools, the HSTF disrupted multiple criminal organizations operating within the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The investigations included networks associated with the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, or CJNG, as well as other regional drug trafficking organizations, gangs and trafficking networks active in the same territory. --- The positions --- Erin Burke, the Homeland Security Investigations Los Angeles special agent in charge, said in attributed terms that Operation Loaded Dice demonstrates the impact of a unified law enforcement response to the criminal organizations that endanger communities, and that by combining collective authorities, resources and expertise the HSTF is identifying and disrupting the networks behind dangerous narcotics, illegal firearms and illicit proceeds. In her assessment, the results represent meaningful progress in protecting the people of southern Nevada and holding accountable those who threaten public safety. Christopher S. Delzotto, special agent in charge of the FBI Las Vegas field office, argued that strong policing requires true partnership, respect and community trust, and that unifying local, state and federal agencies equips law enforcement to tackle crime collectively and save lives. Brandon Lesky of the DEA expressed pride in the results, describing a vast operation that netted assets, removed 290 firearms and seized narcotics while taking 144 suspects off the streets, achieved through a whole-of-government approach built on sharp collaboration and open communication, with the ultimate goal of saving lives. Sigal Chattah, first assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Nevada, called the coordinated operation a testament to the dedication of the multiagency task force and said removing 144 suspects dealt a decisive blow to the criminal networks exploiting the community. Gary Schofield, U.S. marshal for the District of Nevada, said the Marshals remain relentless in their pursuit of justice alongside their partners. Kevin McMahill, sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, thanked the HSTF partnerships and noted that every suspect arrested, firearm recovered or case solved makes a significant impact on the well-being of those who live in Las Vegas. --- What remains unknown --- The official account does not name the 144 arrested suspects or specify the individual charges each one faces, nor does it break down the seizures network by network. It remains unclear how much of the 1,124 kilograms of narcotics belonged to each organization, and what procedural timeline awaits the 13 new investigations opened in coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada, or how community safety in southern Nevada will be measured once the operation's initial announcements give way to court proceedings and verdicts. --- Unanswered questions --- How many of the 144 suspects will face federal charges, and how many will be handled by state or local authorities? Which networks, among those linked to the Sinaloa Cartel and the CJNG, accounted for most of the 290 firearms and the seized narcotics? Will the 13 new investigations produce additional arrests in the coming months, or will they close the cycle opened by Loaded Dice? --- EPM analysis --- The central fact is not only the volume seized but the method: intelligence, surveillance and controlled purchases sustained for approximately three months by a task force combining special agents, officers, analysts, prosecutors and support personnel from federal, state, local and regional agencies. The HSTF was established pursuant to Executive Order 14159, Protecting the American People Against Invasion, as a whole-of-government partnership focused on eliminating criminal cartels, foreign gangs, transnational criminal organizations and human smuggling and trafficking networks. By hitting firearms, narcotics, cash and associated violence at once, the operation treats those lines as a single criminal business rather than isolated offenses, while the resulting cases will still have to move through prosecution with full guarantees and due process for every suspect as the charges advance in federal court. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, Loaded Dice earns its weight through sustained interagency coordination and verifiable results, yet its real measure will be judicial: 144 arrests and 13 new investigations will only become lasting safety if the cases proceed on solid evidence, with full guarantees, and end in convictions that genuinely dismantle the Sinaloa Cartel, CJNG and regional networks, rather than dissolving into one-day figures for the residents of southern Nevada who live with the consequences of this trafficking every day and who deserve verifiable, lasting reductions in violence, firearms in criminal hands and narcotics circulating in their neighborhoods long after the operation closes.
