Lisa Keetley appointed Army Trustee on Imperial War Museum Board

The Prime Minister has appointed Major-General Lisa Keetley as Army Trustee on the Imperial War Museum Board for four years from 1 November 2026.

--- The context --- The Imperial War Museum has a board of trustees with a seat reserved for the Army, and its members receive no remuneration. DCMS has around 430 regulated appointment roles across 45 British public bodies. --- The facts --- The Prime Minister has appointed Major-General Lisa Keetley as Army Trustee on the museum board, for four years from 1 November 2026. Keetley is Defence Services Secretary in the Ministry of Defence. She commissioned into the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers from Sandhurst, worked across the British Army, Defence and NATO, and deployed to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. She commanded the International Donor Coordination Centre and was Deputy Commanding General for Support of the Security Assistance Group Ukraine, coordinating military assistance to Ukraine. She founded the Army Service Women's Network. --- The positions --- The official note states that the appointment followed the Governance Code on Public Appointments, regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments, and that Keetley declared no significant political activity in five years. DCMS encourages applications from people of all backgrounds. --- What remains unknown --- The source does not say which priorities Keetley will bring to the board, nor how she will combine the role with her current duties in the Ministry of Defence. --- Unanswered questions --- Which priorities will Keetley take to the board? How will she divide her time between Defence and the museum? Will her Ukraine experience shape the institution's decisions? --- EPM analysis --- The profile combines operational command, international coordination and public advocacy for the advancement of women across Defence: substance well beyond a merely representative seat. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the appointment strengthens the board with an officer who knows war from the inside and international cooperation from daily practice. Her service in three operational theatres, her command of donor coordination and her role supporting Ukraine offer a perspective that purely administrative profiles could hardly replace. If that experience reaches the museum's decisions, the institution gains direct military judgment and a voice that has argued for opening Defence wider to women.
