Meloni urges guidance to help young people find their path

Giorgia Meloni sent a message for the second edition of OrientaTalenti: guiding young people means helping them understand change, know the professions of the…

--- The context --- Guiding the new generations appears in the message as a central educational task in a time of transformation. According to the text issued by the Government for the second edition of OrientaTalenti, guidance means helping young people understand the changes of their time, learn about the opportunities offered by the professions of the future and acquire the skills needed to face the challenges of a constantly evolving society. --- The facts --- Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sent a message for the second edition of OrientaTalenti. Meloni said she was sorry she could not be at MIND, thanked the organisers for promoting this second edition and addressed a particular greeting to the very many young people who will take part in the event. In her message, Meloni said that guidance means above all recognising and valuing the talents, inclinations and aspirations of each person, so that every young person can find their own path, fully express their abilities and help, through their effort and ideas, to make Italy a stronger, freer nation and the protagonist of its own future. --- The positions --- That idea also guides the Government's action, according to the message: building a school that knows how to reward merit, value effort and teach the value of responsibility and respect, without resigning itself to levelling down and while supporting those in difficulty. The text lists interventions from these years: the reform of technical and vocational education, the new 4+2 model, the strengthening of the ITS Academy network, the creation of the Liceo del Made in Italy and the new names of technological lyceums and professional lyceums. --- What remains unknown --- The message does not detail timetables or measurable results for those interventions, nor does it specify how their effect on study choices and young people's access to work will be measured. It also does not indicate what steps will follow so that guidance reaches every territory equally, or what concrete resources will accompany the event's days beyond the event itself. --- Unanswered questions --- Will the 4+2 model and the ITS Academy network truly strengthen the link between school and the world of work? Will Italy manage to ensure that no young person feels forced to leave their own land to see their value recognised? Will young people leave these days better able to choose, after exploring, experimenting and learning to choose? --- EPM analysis --- The message links guidance with the dignity of every route: it states that no path should be considered first class and another second class, because every talent has its own dignity and every skill can contribute to the country's growth. It also presents investment in young people as a shared responsibility of institutions, schools, universities, businesses and research, and as the way for staying, returning and building a future in Italy to be a free choice. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the strength of the message lies in treating guidance as a matter of freedom rather than mere information: knowing the professions of the future matters, but it matters more that every young person can find their own path without any route being treated as lesser. The test will be whether the technical reform, the ITS Academy network and the new lyceums deliver that equal dignity for every talent across Italy and in every school in the country.
