Cabal questions Santos over recruited minors as his sons reply

The JEP documented 62 executions of minors by the former Farc based on 214 interviews.

--- The context --- The Special Jurisdiction for Peace, known as JEP, documented 62 executions of minors committed by the former Farc. The figure came from 214 interviews gathering accounts of the inhuman treatment suffered by hundreds of children recruited by that organization. The file is part of Case 07, devoted to the recruitment of girls and boys and to the violence they endured inside the ranks. --- The facts --- The JEP summoned six former members of the last Secretariat to an acknowledgment hearing set for April 7, 8 and 9, 2027. Those summoned are Rodrigo Londoño, known as Timochenko; Jaime Alberto Parra; Milton de Jesús Toncel; Pablo Catatumbo; Pastor Alape and Julián Gallo, who must answer as the top persons responsible in Case 07. The Acknowledgment Chamber adopted the decision after reviewing statements by the former commanders, observations from victims, accredited ethnic peoples and the Public Ministry. The JEP also upheld the classification of war crime for the recruitment of adolescents aged 15, 16 and 17 since June 25, 2005. --- The positions --- On X, María Fernanda Cabal stated that the facts had always been public knowledge. According to Cabal, Juan Manuel Santos and those she called his accomplices looked the other way because, she said, it was not their children who were enslaved. She also maintained that, in her view, they ended up with Farc money abroad. These are her own claims, presented as a political position. Esteban Santos replied that recent weeks have been difficult for Cabal and that any candidate she supports ends up jinxed. He asked her not to talk nonsense or make unfounded accusations, distinguishing losing at the ballot box from losing one's sense. Martín Santos wrote that Cabal has slept little. --- What remains unknown --- How the 2027 hearing will unfold is still unknown, as is any direct response from the former president to the claims. The first sessions will focus on recruitment methods and on the mistreatment, torture and killings inside the ranks, according to what the jurisdiction has planned. --- Unanswered questions --- What will the six summoned men say when they must acknowledge responsibility before the victims? Will former president Juan Manuel Santos respond to the claims attributed to Cabal? What new truths will Case 07 bring about the recruited children? --- EPM analysis --- Two different planes should be kept apart. The judicial one moves forward with summonses, legal classifications and hearings supported by interviews and victims' observations. The political one plays out on social media, with claims and immediate replies. Distinguishing them makes it possible to weigh each statement by its origin and its backing. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the center of this story is not the exchange of messages, but the 62 documented executions and the hundreds of children who suffered inhuman treatment after being recruited. The April 2027 hearing will place those most responsible before the victims, and that acknowledgment matters more than any online dispute. Political accusations must be measured with evidence, not frustration, because the truth owed to those minors demands seriousness and verifiable responsibility in every public claim made about this painful case.
