Monday's five verified stories: a new Houthi strike on Riyadh airport, Abascal opens Vox's campaign in Estepona, Brazil sues Shell over the 2024 floods, Trump…

From Riyadh's skies to Spain's ballot boxes: the five stories shaping the day. 1. Saudi Arabia: Yemen's Houthis launched a new attack on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, October 11, 2026: one dead and 11 injured. It came one day after an offensive that killed 12 and injured 309. The group claimed both strikes and others against Aramco facilities. The coalition is assessing damage and the terminal remains suspended. 2. Spain: Santiago Abascal opened Vox's campaign in Estepona and announced he will travel to Ceuta the next day. He attacked Pedro Sánchez's government, framed the November 29 vote as decisive, defended remigration and offered housing and pension figures without detailing concrete models. 3. Brazil: Brazil's prosecutor has sued Shell Brasil for the equivalent of $108 million in damages linked to the 2024 floods in Rio Grande do Sul, which killed nearly 200 people and displaced half a million. The case attributes liability proportional to 2% of the parent company's historical global emissions. The NGO Instituto Preservar co-signed the suit; Shell says it has not been formally notified. 4. United States: Donald Trump made a radical U-turn on Ukraine, saying the country needs a new leader, after Russia delivered 300,000 tons of diesel to U.S. and global markets. The president revealed he had instructed Volodymyr Zelensky not to strike Russian refineries and warned him to stop. Zelensky offered to halt those strikes in exchange for Russia ceasing its attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and announced contacts this Sunday with European leaders. 5. United States: Eight people, including two children, were killed in a shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday, October 9, 2026. The gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound; nine people died in total. Police mounted a SWAT operation before entering the home. 📌 Editor's note: five stories setting the pulse of the week, from conflict to ballots.
