Mínguez Tops PSC Lleida List Amid Housing Controversy

The PSC proposed Montse Mínguez to lead the Congress list for Lleida and Jan Pomés for the Senate in the November 29 general election.

--- The context --- The PSC federation in Lleida, the Pyrenees and Aran proposed Montse Mínguez, spokesperson for the PSOE, to lead the Congress list for Lleida in the November 29 general election, amid controversy over her partner's properties. --- The facts --- The proposal would have Mínguez lead the Congress list and socialist senator Jan Pomés lead the Senate list. It was due to be ratified on Friday by the Catalan socialists' Consell Nacional. The candidacy became known after reports on the property holdings and rental activity of Mínguez's partner. In a televised interview on Tuesday, she defended it as a family rental business that complies with the law. --- The positions --- Mínguez urged people not to grow used to bad politics based on headlines, false news and lies. Òscar Ordeig called for mobilization ahead of elections he described as historic. The PP, according to its sources, questions her coherence on housing, challenges her to an in-depth debate and released a critical video. It also reproaches the PSOE for lecturing on housing while criticizing landlords and vulture funds. --- What remains unknown --- There is no detailed PSC response to each reproach, nor further detail on the rental activity beyond Mínguez's defense of its legality. The outcome of the ratification is not yet known either. --- Unanswered questions --- Will the Consell Nacional ratify the proposal unchanged? Will there be an in-depth debate on housing? Will both sides provide verifiable information about the activity under scrutiny? --- EPM analysis --- Scrutiny of property linked to a candidate is legitimate on housing, a basic right. It is strongest when focused on policies and verifiable data, not only headlines, protecting both accountability and presumption. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the Lleida proposal requires separating three levels: the legality defended by Mínguez, the coherence the PP demands in an attributed accusation, and the housing policies each party offers voters. Only with verifiable data, complete answers and a debate centered on solutions can voters judge whether the controversy is a grounded complaint or a campaign blow without sufficient support to be convincing.
