Suffocating heat and showers mark the Dominican Sunday

Indomet forecasts a stable, hot morning in the Dominican Republic, local showers and possible electrical storms in the afternoon from a weak trough, nighttime…

--- The context --- The Dominican Republic faces a Sunday split in two: a mostly stable morning, with few clouds and hot conditions, and an afternoon with local showers in different parts of the country, according to the forecast from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology, known as Indomet. --- The facts --- The agency expects local showers in the afternoon, possible electrical storms and isolated gusts of wind, associated with a weak trough and wind drag, with a greater chance in the southwest, the Central Mountain Range and the southeast region. In Santo Domingo North, scattered clouds are expected with increasing cloudiness in the afternoon, isolated showers and possible distant thunderstorms, while Santo Domingo West will keep scattered clouds and hot conditions, with afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms, and Santo Domingo East will remain warm with possible scattered afternoon rainfall. --- The positions --- Indomet reported that temperatures will remain high, with highs between 31 °C and 35 °C across much of the territory. At night, the rain would continue in Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón and Monte Cristi, while skies with few clouds would predominate elsewhere. --- What remains unknown --- In the National District, few clouds are expected in the morning along with heat, with slight cloud increases in the afternoon and passing showers. In Greater Santo Domingo, temperatures will range between lows of 23 °C and 25 °C, and highs of 31 °C to 33 °C. --- Unanswered questions --- How will the weak trough evolve overnight in the northwest? Will the showers reach the expected intensity in the southwest and the Central Mountain Range? Will the heat remain at the same levels in the coming days? --- EPM analysis --- Faced with the heat, the agency recommended drinking water frequently, wearing light clothing in light colors, avoiding the sun without protection between 11:00 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon, and staying in cool spaces. It also recalled that children, pregnant women and older adults are the most vulnerable to the heat. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the value of this forecast lies in its call to protect the most vulnerable: with highs of up to 35 °C, staying hydrated, seeking cool and ventilated spaces and protecting children, pregnant women and older adults between 11:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon is not minor advice, but the practical step worth applying on a day that starts stable and hot in the morning and then changes in the afternoon with local showers and possible electrical storms.
