Charity tournament raises RD$2.6 million for children in Boca Chica

--- The context --- In Boca Chica, the La Matica Foundation serves close to 90 children aged 3 to 6, at a decisive stage for their well-being and development. That daily work depends on safe facilities, on food kept in good condition and on suitable spaces to play and learn, even when the electricity supply fails or when rain limits the use of the centre's outdoor patio and interrupts normal activities for the children. --- The facts --- Air Europa held the first edition of its charity tournament 'Un swing que cambia destinos' and raised RD$2.6 million for the La Matica Foundation. The event took place at La Estancia Golf, in La Romana, and brought together players, businesspeople, sponsors and collaborators who joined the solidarity initiative in support of the children served by the institution in Boca Chica, in the Dominican Republic. The programme included a golf competition in the pairs scramble format and a parallel women's padel tournament, designed to broaden participation. Twelve prizes were distributed across golf categories A, B and C and the women's padel competition, with Air Europa tickets in Business and Tourist classes, alongside a shared meal, an awards ceremony and solidarity raffles intended to increase the amount raised during the day. --- The positions --- Marta Ríos, president of the La Matica Foundation, conveyed in indirect terms her gratitude to Air Europa, to the sponsors and to all the participants for their contribution. As she set it out, those resources will have a direct impact on the lives of the close to 90 children aged 3 to 6 served by the institution, by enabling concrete improvements to the facilities and to the daily care they receive. --- What remains unknown --- The timetable for carrying out each improvement has not yet been specified, nor the order in which the planned works and purchases will be undertaken. It has also not been detailed what share of the RD$2.6 million will go to each item, or within what period the solar panels, the new bathrooms and the roof over the outdoor patio announced after the fundraising will be in operation. --- Unanswered questions --- When will the solar panel system that should prevent food losses from the refrigerators be installed? When will the new bathrooms on the upper floor and the roof over the outdoor patio be ready? How will the Boca Chica community be informed about the progress of each improvement financed with this first edition of the tournament? --- EPM analysis --- The fundraising links sport with very concrete needs in childhood. The funds will make it possible to install solar panels in response to frequent electricity supply problems that sometimes cause the loss of stored food, to build new bathrooms on the upper floor, to acquire food and basic necessities and to roof the patio for rainy days. The raffles included three Business class tickets to Johannesburg, Istanbul and Düsseldorf, with connections through Madrid. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the value of this first edition lies in turning a sporting day into verifiable improvements for close to 90 children aged 3 to 6. Solar panels against power cuts, new bathrooms, food and a roofed patio are basic needs, not ornaments. If the work is carried out quickly and with clear information on each item, the tournament will have shown that organised solidarity can solve everyday problems and open a real continuity for the foundation and its community.
