Nutresa buys Presto and all 700 jobs at the chain are preserved

Grupo Nutresa has agreed to acquire the Presto restaurants, which entered liquidation this week, through its subsidiary IRCC S.A.S.

Grupo Nutresa has agreed to buy the Presto restaurants, the chain that entered liquidation this week, in a deal that seeks to keep the company's 700 jobs, equivalent to 100 % of its positions, according to an announcement by President Abelardo De La Espriella. --- The context --- Presto is described in the announcement as a traditional brand beloved by Colombians. This week it became known that the chain's restaurants had entered liquidation, a scenario that put its entire workforce at immediate risk: without a buyer, shutting down the operation would have meant the loss of the jobs of those who work in its restaurants. --- The facts --- Grupo Nutresa agreed to acquire the restaurant chain through its subsidiary IRCC S.A.S. The deal seeks to guarantee the continuity of the company and preserve current jobs, so Presto would have a new owner if the conditions needed to close the transaction are met. The highlighted point of the agreement is about work: the announced intention is to keep all jobs, instead of reducing the staff because of the change of owner. According to what was announced, the intention is also for Presto to keep operating and preserve its brands after the acquisition. --- The positions --- De La Espriella celebrated the news on his X account and stressed that the 700 workers would keep their positions. In his message he expressed his recognition and deep gratitude to Grupo Nutresa for its decision to acquire the Presto restaurants through IRCC S.A.S. He also said the deal would preserve the jobs, guarantee the continuity of the business and preserve its brands, once the corresponding conditions are met, and he thanked the company for protecting the employment of 700 families. --- What remains unknown --- The purchase still has to meet the conditions set for it to be completed: although the agreement has already been announced, the process has not yet been completed. No definitive closing of the transaction has been reported yet, nor a date on which the chain would formally pass to its new owner, so the announced preservation of each job depends on those conditions being met. --- Unanswered questions --- What exactly are the conditions that must be met for the purchase of Presto to be completed? When will the change of owner through IRCC S.A.S. actually take effect? Once the transaction closes, how will it be verified that the 700 jobs, 100 % of the chain's positions, were effectively preserved? --- EPM analysis --- The president used the announcement to highlight the role of private companies in generating job opportunities in Colombia. In his message he held that in the Patria Milagro those who invest, generate employment, create wealth and build the future are supported, and that his Government will always be an ally of the businesspeople who work for the greatness of Colombia. For the workers, however, the measure of success will be concrete: that the continuity of the business translates into jobs actually kept. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the central value of this agreement lies with people: 700 Presto workers would keep their jobs, 100 % of the positions, instead of losing them to the chain's liquidation. That a traditional brand keeps operating matters, but it matters more that 700 families keep their income while the conditions for closing are met. The celebration will be complete when the deal is finalized and every preserved job is verified in practice, restaurant by restaurant, with real continuity for those who sustain the operation daily.
