Dominican man aged 26 found shot dead in Recoleta, Santiago

A Dominican citizen aged 26 was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on El Salto Chico street in Recoleta, Santiago de Chile.

--- The context --- A killing in the early hours on a residential street again puts the focus on neighbourhood safety in Santiago de Chile and on the situation of migrants living in the capital, whose protection depends on fast and effective investigations. --- The facts --- A Dominican citizen aged 26 was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in the early hours of this Saturday in the commune of Recoleta, in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago de Chile, according to the authorities of that country. The young man's body was located on El Salto Chico street, in front of a home, at the entrance of a house, where the authorities confirmed that it bore several projectile impacts. --- The positions --- Prosecutor Alfredo Cerri, of the Organised Crime and Homicides Team of the Metropolitan Region Prosecutor's Office, reported that the victim was found at the entrance of a house with different gunshot wounds. Inspector Matías Caro, of the Central North Homicide Brigade, explained in reported speech that investigators are working on gathering ballistic evidence, statements from possible witnesses and a review of security camera recordings located in the surrounding area. --- What remains unknown --- So far, the authorities have not revealed the identity of the Dominican citizen nor reported any arrests in connection with the homicide, and the circumstances in which the crime took place have not yet been established. --- Unanswered questions --- Who was the victim and why was he at that place? What did the security cameras in the surrounding area record during the early hours? Will there be arrests once the analysis of ballistic evidence and testimony is complete? --- EPM analysis --- The case concentrates its evidentiary weight on three fronts already under way: the ballistic evidence collected at the scene, the testimony that can be gathered and the images from nearby cameras, elements that will have to be cross-checked to reconstruct what happened. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the institutional response should be measured by the speed and transparency with which the Prosecutor's Office and the investigative police turn those steps into verifiable results, because a migrant victim deserves the same protection and the same clarification as any resident, and because without a confirmed identity or identified suspects, trust among the Dominican community in Chile is left exposed to uncertainty and fear, and on answers that arrive while the evidence gathered at the scene is still fresh and usable.
