De La Espriella confirms capture of alias Brayan Veneco in Bolívar

President Abelardo De La Espriella confirmed the capture of David José Rosales Castiblanco, alias Brayan Veneco, after a joint operation in Santa Rosa del Sur…

--- The context --- President Abelardo De La Espriella confirmed in recent hours the capture of David José Rosales Castiblanco, a foreign citizen known as alias Brayan Veneco, one of the most wanted men in Antioquia. The announcement came with a message to criminal structures and with backing for the security forces. According to the authorities, he belonged to the Farc dissidents, in Structure 4 of the Gentil Duarte Magdalena Medio Bloc, a network investigated between 2023 and 2026. --- The facts --- The joint operation by the Police, the Army, the Air Force and the Attorney General's Office took place during a raid in the San Isidro hamlet, in Santa Rosa del Sur, Bolívar, where the authorities arrived guided by military intelligence findings. On entering the property, the authorities were met with bursts of gunfire and reacted in legitimate use of force. Alias Toni, alias Santiago and alias Stiven were captured in flagrante delicto at the scene, and a minor was apprehended, with her rights restored in accordance with the Childhood and Adolescence Code. One of the ringleaders, wounded, fled and entered the San Sebastián Local Hospital, in Morales, Bolívar. Investigators from the Dijín's Grate group, with officers from the Morales Police Station, confirmed his identity there through fingerprint analysis and carried out the capture of Rosales Castiblanco. A stockpile of war materiel was found at the property: one rifle and 13 magazines, one pistol, 921 cartridges, three improvised explosive devices, six uniforms for the exclusive use of the Military Forces, two flags referring to the Farc's Front 37, metal handcuffs and one mobile phone. --- The positions --- De La Espriella stated that it must be clear to the bandits that they have nowhere to hide and that there will be no refuge for criminality. He backed soldiers and police officers to act forcefully, within the Constitution and the law, and warned that he will not allow them to keep murdering, kidnapping and extorting law-abiding Colombians. The president added that criminal structures that seek to sow terror in Colombia continue to be struck without hesitation. Colonel Elver Vicente Alfonso Sanabria, director of Criminal Investigation and Interpol, explained that the result is the product of an investigative process between 2023 and 2026 against the network of alias Jhon Fiera, its main ringleader. --- What remains unknown --- According to intelligence, alias Jhon Fiera coordinates the urban and rural squads in Antioquia, Santander and southern Bolívar, as a liaison for alias Jhon Mechas, top ringleader of the Magdalena Medio Bloc. The structure is credited with the homicide of communal leader Marcos Fidel Jiménez Bohórquez, murdered on August 22, 2023, in Segovia, Antioquia, and with threats and attacks against the peace accords population. --- Unanswered questions --- What charges will Rosales Castiblanco face? How will the proceedings advance against alias Toni, alias Santiago and alias Stiven? What protection will the region's threatened communities receive? --- EPM analysis --- The operation combined military intelligence, a years-long investigation and four institutions, with fingerprint verification beforehand. The materiel found was meant, according to the authorities, for terrorist actions and territorial control. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the capture matters for its scale and its institutional framing: a years-long investigation and four entities acting together show real state capacity, while the restoration of the minor's rights and the fingerprint identification recall that forcefulness gains legitimacy through verifiable procedures. Presidential backing for soldiers and police officers is strengthened if each operation leaves clear judicial results and protects the communities threatened by these structures in Antioquia, Santander and southern Bolívar.
