Milei, cleared in the $LIBRA case, denounces a coup-minded operation

A court dismissed the $LIBRA case against Javier Milei and his sister Karina on the grounds that no crime existed.

--- The context --- The $LIBRA case occupied the Argentine political scene for months, with Javier Milei and his sister Karina named in an investigation the president attributed to an adversarial maneuver. --- The facts --- Invited to speak at Fundación Faro, the think tank led by Agustín Laje, Milei opened his speech by referring to the court decision dismissing the case against him and his sister Karina in the $LIBRA matter on the grounds that no crime existed. The decision also covered other people investigated, among them financial traders and the creator of the cryptocurrency, because the events do not fit a legal category. During his remarks, Milei argued that no one compensates him for one year, eight months and nine days of lies, slander and insults that, in his account, sought to stain his good name and his honor. Those present included ambassadors, ministers, legislators, business leaders and advisers, as well as Karina Milei as general secretary of the Presidency. --- The positions --- Milei said the courts had once again put things in their place and that the dismissal exposed a tremendous political operation whose sole objective, in his account, was to damage the presidential office for coup purposes. He also argued that they tried a coup through the institutional route and failed, attributing that to his government being honest and clean. He also celebrated the proper functioning of republican institutions and of a judiciary that, in his assessment, was not dragged along by the circus of the usual operators. --- What remains unknown --- The information made public does not specify whether Milei will pursue any formal filing for the compensation he mentioned, nor what steps the other dismissed defendants will take. Nor is it detailed what effects the ruling will have on the political fallout from the case, beyond the presidential reading. --- Unanswered questions --- Will Milei file any formal claim over the period he described as lies, slander and insults? What steps will the others covered by the dismissal take? How will the Argentine political debate continue after the courts declared that no crime existed in the $LIBRA case? --- EPM analysis --- The dismissal closes the judicial front weighing on the president and his sister, and Milei turned it into a political message, with compensation as his demand and the coup denunciation as its axis. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the hard fact is the dismissal on the grounds that no crime existed, and the political fact is the use Milei made of that ruling to demand compensation and denounce an operation with coup purposes through the institutional route. The courts closed the case on the terms released and with scope also for other defendants, while the interpretation of his adversaries' intentions belongs to the president's account and remains subject to Argentine public debate in the coming weeks and months ahead.
