Ideam warns of rain and flooding across Colombia this Thursday

Ideam forecast rain for Thursday, October 29 across Colombia's Caribbean, Pacific, Andean, Orinoquia and Amazon regions, with a dry morning in Bogotá followed…

--- The context --- Colombia faces a day of atmospheric instability across almost all of its territory, with abundant cloud cover, rainfall of varying intensity by region and a broad set of hydrological alerts that makes the weather a matter of prevention. --- The facts --- Ideam released the weather forecast for Thursday, October 29. According to the report, recent hours brought abundant cloud cover with moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, and favorable conditions are expected in the maximum temperatures recorded during October. Bogotá will see partly cloudy skies and dry conditions in the morning. In the afternoon there would be light to moderate rain in Suba, Chapinero, Barrios Unidos, Puente Aranda, Rafael Uribe Uribe and Ciudad Bolívar. At night conditions would resemble the morning, without ruling out isolated rainfall in the west, and the maximum will be 21 °C. In the Caribbean and Pacific regions, skies would range from partly to mostly cloudy, with light to moderate drizzle in Chocó, the Valle del Cauca coastline, the Urabá area of Antioquia and its maritime area. In the afternoon, the Caribbean could see moderate to locally heavy rain in Urabá, western Córdoba, Bolívar, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, southern La Guajira and eastern Cesar. In the Andean zone the morning will be dry, without ruling out rainfall in the Coffee Region, western Santander, western Cundinamarca and areas of Tolima. In the afternoon, rain will increase in Norte de Santander, Santander, western Boyacá, western Cundinamarca, the Coffee Region and western Tolima. In the Orinoquia and Amazon regions, skies will range from partly to mostly cloudy, with light drizzle in Putumayo, southwestern Caquetá, Vichada and Meta. In the afternoon and at night it will rain in Casanare, Vichada, Meta, Arauca, the Amazon piedmont and eastern Caquetá, Guaviare, Vaupés and Amazonas. Ideam highlighted hydrological alerts for sudden rises and flooding in 197 hydrographic subzones of Magdalena-Cauca, the Caribbean and the Pacific. --- The positions --- Ideam bases its forecast on the cloud cover and the moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms of recent hours, and keeps the alerts active in the named subzones. No differing positions on this day are available. --- What remains unknown --- The forecast does not detail how the rainfall will evolve afterward or the concrete reach of sudden rises and flooding in each territory named in the alerts. --- Unanswered questions --- How will rainfall evolve after this Thursday in regions with active alerts? Which territories in Magdalena-Cauca, the Caribbean and the Pacific face the highest risk? Will moderate to heavy rainfall persist? --- EPM analysis --- The day combines widespread cloud cover and rain with a hydrological risk that goes beyond the daily forecast, in a phenomenon of national reach where Bogotá keeps a dry morning before the afternoon rain. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the central fact of the day is not only the announced rain, but the breadth of the hydrological alerts covering 197 hydrographic subzones concentrated in Magdalena-Cauca, the Caribbean and the Pacific. When the forecast combines thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rainfall and a risk of sudden rises and flooding, caution among riverside communities and travelers in the named areas becomes the first protective measure for this Thursday across the country.
