United Kingdom demands verifiable Russian evidence at security forum

The United Kingdom condemned Russian attacks on Dnipro, Chernihiv, Kremenchuk and Komyshuvakha at a security forum, demanded the Red Cross own confirmation…

--- The context --- At an international security forum, the British delegation argued that claims Russia presents each week must rest on verifiable evidence rather than on presentations alone, while Ukrainian civilians continue to bear the heaviest cost of the Russian strike campaign. --- The facts --- The United Kingdom condemned the Russian drone attack of 29 October on a crowded platform at Dnipro main station, as a commuter train prepared to depart, which killed at least 14 people. On the same day, according to the delegation, Russian strikes killed two children in Chernihiv and at least three people in Kremenchuk. London also unequivocally condemned the double-tap strike of 2 November in Komyshuvakha against civilians gathering for humanitarian aid, which killed at least 33 people, including police officers and rescue workers. The delegation said Ukrainian civilians are once again paying the price for Russia strike campaign against their country. --- The positions --- The delegation challenged Russia attribution to the International Committee of the Red Cross of a 23 September verification concerning the Wildberries warehouses in the Leningrad region, noting that the claim came from a Russian official and that the committee itself has issued no confirmation, and it asked Moscow to provide that organisation own confirmation directly. It also noted that on 7 October Russia cited its own intelligence service to support a claim about a European Union policy the bloc had already denied a month earlier, and that photographs used on 30 September lacked incident-specific dates, recovery locations, provenance and chain of custody linking them to specific attacks, while last week's presentation contained 12 slides. --- What remains unknown --- According to the delegation, many of those photographs were undated, none was from October, some dated back to April, and most came from the archive of Mr Miroshnik, the same official linked to the unconfirmed Red Cross claim. Without those basic details, London argued, an assertion is not authentication, and images alone cannot be treated as proof of an alleged offence. --- Unanswered questions --- Will Russia provide the Red Cross own confirmation of the conclusion its delegation attributed to it? Will it explain how culpability was established in each of the 12 slides presented last week? Will it publish dates, locations and chain of custody so each photograph can be verified independently by others? --- EPM analysis --- The statement joined condemnation with a demand for proof and with concrete support: on 28 October the United Kingdom announced over £10 billion in additional support, its largest package, including £500 million for air defences this winter, on top of £3 billion a year, with £35 billion committed in total, including £16.5 billion in military support, and it welcomed the United States approval on 30 October of the potential sale of 500 Patriot interceptors funded by partners and allies. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the strength of the British case lies in keeping two duties together: condemning documented attacks on civilians and demanding verifiable proof for grave accusations made by any side. Protecting civilians requires air defences and sustained aid, and it also requires that exceptional charges be supported by independent confirmation, clear dates and a traceable custody record. Until Moscow supplies that verification, its weekly presentations will remain repeated assertions rather than evidence able to weaken international support for Ukraine.
