--- The context --- The department of Cauca concentrates laboratories and mobilization mechanisms that drug trafficking structures use to process and move narcotics toward other countries. In that setting, the National Police carried out an operation in the department of Cauca against networks that sustain their activity with shipments and chemical products. --- The facts --- Authorities seized 3,997 kilograms of marijuana, including 1,186 packages of creepy-type marijuana, in a shipment that was reportedly headed to the illegal markets of Peru and Chile. The operation left two people captured and 3 vehicles immobilized. Officers also seized 4,542 liters of chemical substances, 100 containers of caustic soda and 36 scales, items that, according to the report, were used in clandestine processing laboratories. The result adds to the operations of November 3, 2026, when a combined 1,765 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were seized in two procedures in López de Micay, in Cauca, and La Tola, in Nariño. The combined result of those procedures was valued at more than 81 million dollars for the organizations dedicated to drug trafficking and reportedly prevented the distribution of approximately 4.4 million doses. In one of those procedures, troops located 40 bundles containing 1,175 rectangular packages, with a net weight of 1,175 kilograms. --- The positions --- President Abelardo de la Espriella announced the result and stressed, in terms attributed to the president, that the actions of the security forces seek to hit the economic resources of the organizations dedicated to drug trafficking. The president also stated that the seizures seek to reduce the resources available to those organizations, congratulated the National Police members who took part in the procedure, and reiterated that the authorities will continue the actions against criminal structures across the country's regions. --- What remains unknown --- The identities of the two captured people are not yet known, nor is it known how the judicial process in their case will advance. It has also not been specified which network controlled the marijuana shipment or how the immobilized vehicles and the clandestine laboratories connect with the transfer toward Peru and Chile. --- Unanswered questions --- Which organization controlled the 3,997 kilograms of marijuana seized in Cauca? What role did the 3 immobilized vehicles play within the transfer toward Peru and Chile? How will the judicial process advance against the two people captured in the operation? --- EPM analysis --- The seizure hits the product, the logistics and the processing inputs at the same time: marijuana ready to leave the country, vehicles to move it and chemical substances to produce more. That combination explains why the authorities present the result as a blow to criminal finances and not merely as an isolated seizure in Cauca. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the seizure of 3,997 kilograms of marijuana in Cauca protects communities when it cuts, at the same time, the shipment, the vehicles and the inputs of the clandestine laboratories. Every package that does not reach Peru or Chile is money that stops financing violence in the territories. The challenge will be for the captures to translate into firm judicial processes and a real dismantling of the network that moved the drugs.
