El Salvador seeks rescue of four kidnapped technicians in Haiti

A military operation is searching in Haiti for four Salvadoran aviation technicians devoted to medical evacuations and kidnapped after the October 18 ambush…

--- The context --- Four Salvadorans remain kidnapped in Haiti while serving within an international mission, according to the official information released so far. They are not combat personnel, according to what President Nayib Bukele has confirmed, but aviation technicians linked to humanitarian work in the Caribbean country. --- The facts --- The Salvadoran personnel consists of pilots and technicians devoted mainly to medical evacuations and to saving lives, according to what the president explained. The four were kidnapped as they returned from buying food at a local market, in events that followed the October 18 ambush against a mission vehicle. According to official information, a military operation is under way to locate and rescue them. The actions are taking place around Santo, in the commune of Croix-des-Bouquets, on the Cul-de-Sac plain, with the Haitian National Police, the GSF and other international forces taking part, along with air support from the Army of El Salvador. Fighting has been reported in that area against positions of criminal groups, including the stronghold of the 400 Mawozo gang, and activity attributed to Chen Mechan. --- The positions --- According to what the president confirmed, the demand addressed to those responsible is that they hand over the four compatriots alive and unharmed. He also warned that actions could intensify if the criminal structures do not release them. Ambassador Egriselda López, for her part, condemned the attack before the UN Security Council and expressed El Salvador concern for the situation of the four compatriots. According to her remarks, she called for coordination among the parties to be maintained and strengthened, and for intelligence, surveillance, mobility, communications and medical care capabilities to be mobilized toward a prompt and safe recovery. --- What remains unknown --- The exact whereabouts of the four technicians have not been publicly confirmed, nor has any contact with them been reported. --- Unanswered questions --- Where are the four Salvadoran technicians kidnapped in Haiti at this moment? Has any contact been established that would confirm their state of health? What additional international coordination measures will be activated to guarantee a safe recovery? --- EPM analysis --- The case places at its center the protection of personnel who perform no combat role and whose daily work is to transport the sick and the wounded. Containment, the diplomatic path and coordination among Haiti, the international mission and El Salvador therefore appear as the most prudent course while the operation remains under way and the available information is still limited. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the first priority in this crisis is to preserve the lives of four technicians who are not combatants and whose work is to save others, so every step must be measured by its capacity to bring them back unharmed. International coordination, prepared medical care and informational prudence are not secondary gestures, but concrete conditions to keep an ongoing operation from becoming a greater risk for those now awaiting release.
