Angie Rodriguez Files Complaint Against Petro Over Alleged Abuse

Angie Rodriguez has filed a complaint against former president Gustavo Petro over alleged abuse and threats.

Angie Rodriguez, former director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency, has filed a complaint with the prosecution service against former president Gustavo Petro over alleged abuse and threats. According to the complaint, there were verbal attacks, an attempt to impose an appointment and an entry into the home of her parents, pending verification. --- The context --- Rodriguez was among the officials closest to Petro and led the Administrative Department of the Presidency. According to her account, that closeness became a relationship marked by irregular orders and personal reproaches. The complaint adds to a controversy reported on 31 August about an alleged plan from the presidential palace for former paramilitary chiefs to link Abelardo De La Espriella, Alvaro Uribe and German Vargas Lleras to illegal structures, a plan that failed through their refusal. --- The facts --- Rodriguez stated that on 13 January Petro called her at about 11 at night and insulted her in his office for an hour. According to the complaint, he accused her of a personal link with the son of a paramilitary figure and of sharing with him a smuggling and fentanyl network. Rodriguez said she demanded respect and argued that any evidence should be taken to the courts. On 21 November last year, five men entered at night the home of the parents of Rodriguez. According to the complaint, the video she released shows books and documents in disarray, with nothing stolen, as if information had been sought. Rodriguez said Petro linked the episode to his past in the M-19 and implied that nothing had been found. --- The positions --- Rodriguez argues that Juliana Guerrero held real power at the presidential palace through a network of women and sought to decide appointments. According to the complaint, Petro ordered her to appoint Guerrero as deputy minister for Youth and, when she objected that the requirements were not met, he insisted that it was an order and attributed her stance to envy over physical appearance. Rodriguez said that episode began the verbal attacks. The complainant added that Guerrero presented a degree eight days later that raised doubts over its origin, according to the account. She also recounted an episode attributed to Isaac de Leon Beltran, emissary who travelled to Europe in May 2024 to meet Papa Pitufo. According to her testimony, she was asked there about the silence of Olmedo Lopez and of Papa Pitufo and shown a gesture associated with a weapon, which she understood as a threat. --- What remains unknown --- What is established is the content of the complaint. The source contains no response by Petro to each allegation and no decision by the prosecution service on an investigation. There is also no independent verification of the degree of Guerrero, of the video of the entry or of the meeting attributed to Beltran. Rodriguez argued that prosecutor Luz Adriana Camargo was an ally of Petro, a claim that requires checking. --- Unanswered questions --- Which documents and witnesses confirm or refute the account of 13 January? What checks will prosecutors carry out on the video and her evidence? Did Juliana Guerrero meet the requirements and which institution issued her degree? Will Petro respond in detail to the complaint? --- EPM analysis --- The case brings together three levels that must stay separate: the institutional level, on whether an objection over unmet requirements was protected; the safety level, on threats and an entry into a family home that require expert checks; and the political level, on the alleged plan against De La Espriella, Uribe and Vargas Lleras. Keeping them apart allows answers to be demanded without treating anything as proven. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the complaint filed by Angie Rodriguez calls for a full investigation and effective protection for the complainant, because it describes a pattern in which proximity to power allegedly turned into impositions, personal disqualifications and fear for her safety and that of her family. Nothing in the account can be treated as proven without documentary and witness checks, but it cannot be dismissed as an internal dispute without independent examination either. If the prosecution service acts autonomously and hears every party, the case can clarify how authority was exercised inside the presidential palace.
