Four women workers injured in car bomb explosion at a toll booth in Casanare

Four employees were injured when a vehicle exploded at the San Pedro toll booth in Casanare, destroying at least one booth and leaving debris across the road.

--- The context --- Four women were injured after a vehicle exploded at a highway toll booth in the department of Casanare, in eastern Colombia, according to Government sources. The blast struck an everyday point of regional travel: a toll facility staffed by employees and used by people moving between municipalities. --- The facts --- The explosion took place at the San Pedro toll booth, located on the road that connects the municipalities of Villanueva and Monterrey, during the early hours of Friday, and it caused damage to the road infrastructure, in addition to injuring four employees. The identity of the victims has not been disclosed for the moment. The detonation destroyed at least one of the toll booths and left debris scattered across the road. Authorities travelled to the scene to inspect what happened and to search for any possible evidence that could help identify those responsible. --- The positions --- From the Government, Transport Minister Elsa Noguera condemned the act as criminal and said that authorities, at both national and local level, are working to ensure that the road is safe. In a public message she expressed absolute rejection of terrorism, said the car bomb attacks the lives of Colombians and people's right to move in peace and safety, and shared a video in which the moment of the attack can be seen. For his part, the governor of Casanare, César Ortiz Zorro, also rejected the attack and announced the creation of an extraordinary security council to coordinate the operations to search for and capture the suspects. --- What remains unknown --- The identity of the four injured employees has not been disclosed and their condition is not yet known. It is also unknown who is responsible or how safety will be restored on the road between Villanueva and Monterrey. --- Unanswered questions --- What is the condition of the four injured employees? Who is responsible for the explosion at the San Pedro toll booth? When will it be safe to travel again on the road between Villanueva and Monterrey? --- EPM analysis --- The attack concentrates its harm on workers at a civilian facility and on the mobility of an entire region, and it tests whether institutions can protect both at the same time. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the human cost must come first in reading this attack: four employees were injured at their workplace, their identities have not been disclosed, and nothing has been reported yet about their condition, while a road people rely on to travel was left damaged and covered in debris. Institutional action will be credible only if it protects toll workers and other civilian staff, restores safe travel, and keeps the public informed. Finding those responsible matters, but care for the injured and safety for travellers cannot wait behind the investigation.
