Los Andes residents confront armed robbery attempt in Bogotá

A man pointed a firearm at a citizen in the Los Andes neighborhood of Bogotá on Wednesday, October 21, at 1:24 p. m.

--- The context --- The Los Andes neighborhood, in the Barrios Unidos locality of Bogotá, is again at the center of community concern about safety. Local leaders describe a corridor where several similar events have already occurred, with motorcycles used to arrive, wait and flee. The citizen approached in this episode lives in Alta Vista and was passing through the area. The risk described therefore reaches beyond Los Andes residents and affects anyone who crosses the neighborhood on foot during the day. --- The facts --- According to the date and time shown by a security camera, the episode took place on Wednesday, October 21, at 1:24 p. m. A man approached a citizen from behind and pointed a firearm at him at close range during an attempted robbery in a public street. The citizen turned around, confronted the armed man, and the two struggled in the street. The alleged robber made a movement with the weapon toward the citizen. On social media it was claimed that he had tried to shoot, but that has not been confirmed by the authorities and cannot be concluded from the video. After the struggle, the armed man ran to a motorcycle where another man was waiting, and the two left the area. The motorcycle plate and the identities are not known. --- The positions --- Jorge Garzón, president of the Community Action Board of Los Andes, said indirectly that several events have already occurred in that corridor under the same circumstances: arrival by motorcycle, one man getting off, another waiting, and neighbors robbed at gunpoint. He referred to a previous case at calle 94 con carrera 67 against a Board member, with a revolver. Garzón also referred to complaints about people in a black car and a white car who ask older adults for directions while pretending to be lost, with a complaint of scopolamine use to rob them. Residents asked for a greater Police presence and controls. --- What remains unknown --- There is no official information on health status or a formal complaint. The authorities have not commented, and no captures have been reported. --- Unanswered questions --- Will the authorities confirm whether the armed man tried to shoot during the struggle? Is the citizen health status known, and did he file a formal complaint? Can the motorcycle and the two men who fled be identified? Will there be sustained police presence in the corridor identified by residents? --- EPM analysis --- The recording shows an approach from behind, a weapon at close range and a prepared escape. The pattern described will need verification through complaints, patrols and follow-up. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the useful response is not to normalize that a citizen should have to struggle with an armed man, but to strengthen prevention in the corridor, protect especially the older adults named in the complaints, and provide verifiable official information on health, complaint and identification of those responsible, because without sustained presence and clear data, fear will keep occupying the street even after the video stops circulating online and in the neighborhood.
