Explosive Attack in Cucuta, Beside the International Bridge

An explosive charge went off in Escobal, in Cucuta, beside the Francisco de Paula Santander international bridge, on the border with Venezuela.

--- The context --- During the morning of this Tuesday, October 27, a new explosive attack was recorded in the area known as Escobal, in Cucuta, near the Francisco de Paula Santander international bridge, on the border between Colombia and Venezuela. The point lies in Norte de Santander and connects with Ureña, on the Venezuelan side. --- The facts --- Residents of the area said they heard a loud blast at that point, so the authorities activated all the protocols required in these cases. Citizens lived through moments of panic after the explosive charge was activated beside the international bridge. The attack left three people wounded, among them police officers, and the wounded were taken to nearby care centers. In videos circulating on social media, people and officers can be seen helping one of their colleagues, putting him into a Police patrol vehicle for transfer to a medical center. According to the records shared, officers of the Cucuta Metropolitan Police were evacuated with wounds after receiving the impact of the explosive wave during the attack in the Escobal neighborhood, near the international bridge. --- The positions --- A user on social media asked what was happening in Cucuta, said an explosive charge had just been activated beside the bridge that connects with Ureña and warned that there were wounded people. The user also said that the Padre Luis Variara school stands beside the place, where at that hour there are dozens of children. Lawyer Gabriel Escobar also spoke out and expressed the fear that, he said, is lived in Cucuta. He said the Police commander was changed two months ago, stated that there are no operations and held that people are afraid to go out into the streets, that violence has increased and that young people are leaving. --- What remains unknown --- The account known so far does not attribute the attack to any group or identify those responsible for activating the charge. It also does not specify the health condition of the three wounded people after their transfer to nearby care centers, nor does it detail additional damage in the Escobal area. The event added to a public order situation described as complex in Norte de Santander, preceded by the murder of Miguel Castellanos during the night of Monday, October 26, an antecedent that forms part of the immediate context of the area. --- Unanswered questions --- Who activated the explosive charge beside the Francisco de Paula Santander international bridge? What is the condition of the three wounded people, among them police officers, after their transfer to care centers? What measures will protect the residents of Escobal and the children of the Padre Luis Variara school at such a sensitive border point? --- EPM analysis --- The location concentrates the seriousness of the event: an international bridge connecting Colombia with Ureña, an inhabited neighborhood and a nearby school with dozens of children at that hour. Added to that are the panic described by residents and the fear expressed in the city after a previous night marked by another crime. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, an attack beside an international bridge does not strike only those who are wounded, because it also alters the daily life of a neighborhood, sows fear in a city that had already come from a violent night and tests the real presence of the authorities on the border, where protecting residents, schoolchildren and officers requires verifiable answers, sustained presence and an investigation that identifies those responsible without assigning blame without proof.
