Security forces seized 2,213 kilograms of drugs in Caqueta, Cauca and Narino, with 448 kilograms of coca base in Belen de los Andaquies and 1,765 kilograms of…

--- The context --- Colombia's president, Abelardo De La Espriella, has directed the security forces to toughen operations against the criminal structures devoted to drug trafficking. Within that framework, the president disclosed a series of recent blows in three departments of the country, presented as part of a sustained offensive against that illegal business and against the groups that sustain it. --- The facts --- In total, the authorities seized 2,213 kilograms of drugs in Caqueta, Cauca and Narino, shipments that, according to what was disclosed, were meant to reach the streets of Colombia and international markets. In Belen de los Andaquies, in Caqueta alone, the National Police seized 448 kilograms of coca base hidden inside tires installed on two steel cable reels. That operation in Caqueta left one person captured and two vehicles immobilized. In the Colombian Pacific, the National Navy, in joint operations with the Army and coordinated with the Police, seized 1,765 kilograms of cocaine, of which 1,175 kilos were found in Lopez de Micay, in Cauca, and another 590 kilos in La Tola, in Narino. --- The positions --- According to what the president expressed on his social media accounts, there are more than 4.9 million doses out of circulation and a blow of more than 81 million dollars to drug trafficking finances. In reported speech, the president held that there will be a total offensive with no truce, that Colombia will not be a refuge or a corridor for drug trafficking and that rivers, seas and roads will not keep being used to profit from crime. --- What remains unknown --- Additional details are still unknown about the identity of the person captured in Belen de los Andaquies and about the judicial fate of the two immobilized vehicles. It has not been specified either which concrete structures were moving each shipment or whether new operations will follow from these seizures in the three departments mentioned. --- Unanswered questions --- Which criminal structures were behind each of the shipments seized in Caqueta, Cauca and Narino? What will happen to the person captured and to the two vehicles immobilized in the Belen de los Andaquies operation? Will new security force operations follow in the Pacific and in the south of the country after these results? --- EPM analysis --- The central fact is the combined scale: adding land and Pacific operations into a single balance shows simultaneous pressure on different routes. For the communities in those territories, the real effect will depend on whether the institutional presence remains after the blow and on whether illegal economies lose their capacity to recover quickly. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, these seizures matter because of their volume and their geography, since they strike the south and the Pacific at the same time, two key drug trafficking corridors. The balance of 2,213 kilograms and more than 4.9 million doses out of circulation is forceful, but its lasting value will be measured by what follows: sustained captures, real dismantling of structures and an institutional presence that does not withdraw when public attention over these recent operations fades.
