Complaint Filed With Prosecutors Alleges Camp Meetings in Uribe Turbay Case

A document filed with prosecutors and added to the case file, based on a confidential source, alleges that the assassination of Miguel Uribe Turbay was planned…

--- The context --- Miguel Uribe Turbay died on August 11, 2025, after the June 7 attack in Bogotá. There is still no complete answer about who may have ordered the attack, and every new item in the case file is examined under a demand for truth and timely results. The most recent item is a document filed with prosecutors and added to the case file. It is not a judgment or a closed conclusion, but a complaint built on information from a confidential source, and that condition requires every allegation to be read conditionally, with explicit attribution and without turning suspicion into proven fact. --- The facts --- According to the complaint, the assassination was allegedly planned at at least four meetings mentioned by the confidential source. The source alleges that they took place at camps in Venezuela linked in the document to Iván Márquez and in Carurú, Vaupés, at a camp attributed to alias Jhon 40, and that financing was allegedly coordinated between Villavicencio and Carurú. The document also alleges that two brothers of Jhon Cuarenta, residents of Villavicencio, met with alias El Viejo. According to the complaint, a lawyer for alias Jaco allegedly acted as a liaison, and the filing asks investigators to review his visits to alias Araña in prison, always as a hypothesis to verify rather than established responsibility. --- The positions --- Separately, María Claudia Tarazona handed prosecutors on September 3, 2026, a message that she said she received two months before the attack. That message mentioned Marcos Calarcá organizing eight people, and Tarazona asked that it be taken into account. Luis Alberto Albán denied any link to the assassination. He said he has no relationship with the dissident groups and stated that since the 2016 Peace Agreement his activity is political. Defense lawyers for Albán and five other former lawmakers asked for verification of the authenticity, origin and context of the chats, and recalled that a complaint does not amount to a conviction and that the presumption of innocence applies. --- What remains unknown --- It remains to be established whether the meetings mentioned actually occurred, whether the financing described existed and whether the message delivered by Tarazona is authentic and what context surrounds it. Prosecutors must also assess the source's origin and test every claim against evidence in the case file before assigning responsibility. --- Unanswered questions --- Did the at least four meetings mentioned by the confidential source take place at the locations identified? Can the financing that, according to the complaint, was coordinated between Villavicencio and Carurú be verified? Are the chats and the message delivered on September 3, 2026, authentic, complete and attributable? --- EPM analysis --- The central tension is not between investigating and not investigating, because investigating is an obligation. It lies between doing so rigorously and doing so under pressure, and only rigor protects at once the search for those responsible and the rights of the people named in an unverified complaint. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, this document must be read for what it is: a complaint from a confidential source added to the case file, not a closed truth or an early sentence against anyone. Prosecutors must test every meeting, every financing movement and every chat against verifiable evidence under effective judicial oversight. Protecting the presumption of innocence does not weaken the search for justice; it strengthens it, because a truth built without firm evidence would harm the family, the proceedings and public trust alike.
