Three women were killed inside a home in Toro, Valle del Cauca

Three women were shot dead inside a home in Toro, in northern Valle del Cauca, this Friday, November 6.

--- The context --- Toro is a municipality in the northern subregion of Valle del Cauca, in Colombia. This Friday, November 6, an armed attack inside a residential property shook the locality and left three women dead. The events unfolded inside a home, the most elementary refuge from violence, and that marks the gravity of what happened. --- The facts --- According to the first information known in the area, armed men violently broke into the home and fired their pistols at the victims without a word before fleeing in an unknown direction. The fatal victims were preliminarily identified by the competent authorities as Yarlin Andrea Muñoz Gutiérrez, Sulisney Muñoz Gutiérrez and María del Carmen Gutiérrez Toro. Members of the Policía Nacional and judicial police investigators arrived at the scene after neighbors called for help, to safeguard the physical evidence. --- The positions --- The leadership of the Policía del Valle del Cauca is preparing a statement and a preliminary official report consolidating the technical details of the inspection. Hypotheses about the causes of the multiple crime are being handled under strict reserve of the preliminary investigation, pending field findings. Units of the Seccional de Investigación Criminal (Sijín) and the Fiscalía General de la Nación are maintaining inquiries to locate the killers and establish the motives of the attack. --- What remains unknown --- The identity of the men who entered the home is unknown, as is the route they took when they fled. The motives for the attack are not known either, nor is the result of the technical inspection of the scene. The preliminary official report is still pending, and with it the definitive confirmation of the victims' identification, which so far remains preliminary in character. For now, work at the scene is focused on safeguarding the physical evidence while inquiries continue in the locality. That order of priorities, securing the scene and sustaining the preliminary investigation, also sets the pace at which additional information about what happened inside the home may become known. --- Unanswered questions --- Who are the armed men who broke into the home and fled in an unknown direction? What motives explain an attack against three women inside a house? When will the Policía del Valle del Cauca deliver the announced preliminary official report? What will the technical inspection of the scene produce? These questions have no public answer today and only verifiable investigative progress will resolve them. --- EPM analysis --- The reserve surrounding the hypotheses is understandable at a preliminary stage, but it cannot become prolonged silence toward a community that called for help and now expects certainty. Every day without verified information opens space for rumor and fear. The priority must be to clarify the crime with solid evidence and to treat the victims' families with respect throughout the judicial process. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, the first duty after such a crime is to name the victims and refuse to let their deaths become just another figure in violent statistics. Yarlin Andrea, Sulisney and María del Carmen had names, a home and a community that now awaits clear answers. The investigation must move forward rigorously, without leaks that revictimize and without silences that feed impunity. Protecting life inside the home, the most basic space of safety, is an obligation that admits no institutional delays.
