Bogota Content City Studios in Cota to Open in July 2028

Bogota Content City will be built in Cota, Cundinamarca, with an investment of more than US$30 million from Global Content City and management by Secuoya…

--- The context --- Colombia is seeking to consolidate its audiovisual industry with large-scale infrastructure. Bogota Content City, announced in 2022 as part of a Latin America expansion road map, has entered a concrete phase following Vice President Jose Manuel Restrepo's visit to Madrid Content City, where the project planned for Cota, Cundinamarca, north of Bogota, was confirmed. The complex will take Madrid Content City, in Tres Cantos, as its reference. That site covers about 140 thousand square meters and brings together writing, studios, post-production and training in a single ecosystem, with 12 high-performance studios, ten of them occupied by a major streaming platform, alongside a university specializing in the audiovisual field. --- The facts --- Secuoya Content Group will manage Bogota Content City, with an investment of more than US$30 million from Global Content City. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2027 and operations in July 2028. By late 2025 the project already had its land and architectural design in place. The first phase includes two studios of 1,500 square meters each, with advanced soundproofing and 12 meters of clear height, plus spaces for wardrobe, makeup and production offices. Two support buildings of 500 square meters each will be added, along with a corporate and training building of 1,500 square meters housing a university center for 700 students. --- The positions --- Raul Berdones, president of Secuoya Content Group, argued that Colombia brings together talent, professionals and companies with broad experience in major international productions, and that the complex will support that capacity with infrastructure and management that facilitate new projects and connect training with industry activity. The facilities will also be open to national and international producers, platforms and other operators. --- What remains unknown --- The staged financing, the access criteria for local production companies and the hiring calendar have not yet been detailed. It is also unclear how budgets will be divided between national and international shoots. The available information confirms the official visit and meetings with Bogota's mayor's office and Colombia's government, without detailing additional commitments. --- Unanswered questions --- Will the June 2027 construction start and the July 2028 opening be met? How many of the up to 20 productions per year will be Colombian? How will the estimated more than 2,000 jobs benefit local talent in practice? What role will the center for 700 students play in technical training? --- EPM analysis --- Over the next five years, Secuoya Content Group plans to manage US$300 million in productions in Colombia, with annual production budgets above US$100 million and capacity for up to 20 productions a year. The group reports more than 50 projects in development and plans to invest 2.5 million dollars annually in this activity, a scale that gives the initiative real weight. 📌 EPM Take: In EPM's view, Bogota Content City can become a strategic asset if it meets three conditions: starting construction in June 2027 without cuts, opening in July 2028 with real demand from producers and platforms, and turning the announced budgets into verifiable jobs and training in Cota and Bogota. The official visit and the secured land lend credibility to the announcement, but its value will be measured in actual productions, not in projected figures.
